Code of Conduct
We at the UXR Collective truly believe that UX Research is critical for any organization, and that the value of UX Research and UX Research knowledge is for everyone. For us, it is not enough that we’ve created a home for UX researchers if our community does not reflect the values we believe in.
We are committed to building a community that is welcoming, accessible, and safe, regardless of identity, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, neurotype, physical appearance, origin, faith, ability, socioeconomic status, or community.
This starts with our Code of Conduct and the expectation that those who participate in our community help us to create a safe, inclusive, hostility-free culture for everyone.
Who does the Code of Conduct apply to
Our Code of Conduct applies to everyone working with the UXR Collective or taking part in any UXR Collective event.
UXR Collective employees, volunteers, speakers, attendees, exhibitors, sponsors and vendors are protected by and expected to follow our Code of Conduct.
We are all accountable in how we treat one another.
Behaviour we will not tolerate
The UXR Collective will not tolerate harassment under any circumstances, whether the behaviour is direct or indirect. We do not tolerate hatred and bigotry in our spaces, whether that is in person or through any of our channels.
Harassment includes:
- unwanted physical contact or simulated physical contact
- unwanted sexual attention
- violence and/or intimidation
- any aggressive or offensive commentary based on one’s identity, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, neurotype, physical appearance, origin, faith, ability, or socioeconomic status, or community
- unwanted photography, videography, and recording
If you are asked to stop any unacceptable or harassing behaviour, you are expected to stop immediately. If the behaviour continues, appropriate action will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by any violations.
Report a violation to our Code of Conduct
If you witness or experience any behaviour that goes against our Code of Conduct, please find a member of our team immediately.
When you make a report to a member of our team, they will ensure that you are in a safe space where you will not be overheard and will ask you about what happened. We understand that this can be upsetting and difficult, so if you need to bring someone to support you, please do. We will listen to you, and work with you confidentially to resolve the situation.
You can also contact us at codeofconduct@uxrcollective.com. (Please note that this email is only staffed during regular business hours and is not suitable for urgent emergencies.)
We will make every reasonable effort to maintain the confidentiality of your report. When appropriate, we are prepared to involve third parties, including but not limited to security services or law enforcement.
If you do not feel comfortable contacting the organizers for help, please contact someone you trust, or the aforementioned third parties directly.
If you are experiencing an emergency, please contact the appropriate authorities.
If you are unsure if you have witnessed or experienced any behaviour that goes against our Code of Conduct, we still encourage you to report the incident. You are important to us. You make our community better. We would rather a few extra reports than missing a report of an actual violation.
No retaliation
You have a right to come forward about any unacceptable behaviour without fear of retaliation.
We prohibit any retaliation against anyone who comes forward with a report or participates in an investigation regarding violations of our Code of Conduct. Our response and applicable consequences to violations Those who do not comply with our Code of Conduct in good faith can expect appropriate action to be taken by UXR Collective organizers, which may include conflict mediation, close-monitoring by organizers, ejection from gatherings or community platforms without refund, a temporary or permanent ban from all future events, or involvement from security staff or law enforcement.
If the person who is harassing you is a member of our team, they will not take part in handling your incident. Other members of our team will respond as promptly as they can.
If you need any further assistance, please contact us at codeofconduct@uxrcollective.com.
